As a clinician, how do you communicate the importance of escalation to junior medical and nursing staff?

This assignment must post 400 words for each topic.
I have three different topics. So, the total of words must be 1200 words and 6 references (2 or 3 references for each topic)

First post (1): LEADERSHIP AND PATIENT SAFETY

First topic: Read the chapter provided: “When whistleblowing seems like the only option”

I worked as Nurse in a hospital, so imagine situation in my clinical area instead of me (as a health professional)
ORIGINAL POST: 400 words

Prepare one post of approximately 400 words that addresses the following points:

1. Consider a situation where you or a colleague has experienced moral distress.
2. What action, if any, did you take in the situation?
3. What policies, laws, standards, clinical tools or other publications (e.g., academic literature) either supported, or could have supported your action?
4. What effect, if any, did your moral distress have on patient care?
5. If faced with this same situation again, would you take the same action, or would you do things differently?

Important: when posting please do not identify your patient/facility/or other staff members involved.

Referencing: Please cite any references at the end of your post. If you are citing specific facility policies, please de-identify them e.g., rather than citing “xxx Hospital Policy number 12345 (2014) Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration”, write “xxx policy number xxx (2014) Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration”

The second topic 2: TEAMWORK, COLLABORATION AND PATIENT SAFETY
Read the report provided by the CEC “Patient Safety 2012 Sepsis”. Be sure to look up any acronyms with which you are not familiar e.g., CEC, SAC, NETS

*NB: These reports are freely available from the CEC’s website www.cec.health.nsw.gov.au under the “Knowledge and Resources” tab at the top of the page.
Key findings in all of the case studies contained within this report identify a failure to recognise or respond to a deteriorating patient, and a number of recommendations are proposed on page 15 of the report.
• imagine situation in my clinical area instead of me
Prepare one post of approximately 400 words addressing the following points:
1. As a clinician, how do you communicate the importance of escalation to junior medical and nursing staff?
2. If sepsis is suspected, how do you ensure an early review and management of the patient by senior medical staff or higher levels of care?
3. What policies, laws, standards, clinical tools or other publications (e.g., academic literature) do you have in place in your facility for early recognition and prompt treatment of sepsis?
4. Briefly describe a situation that you have encountered in your own practice where sepsis has been suspected in a patient. What happened? How was the situation managed? If faced with the same situation again, would you do things differently? Why/why not?

Important: when posting please do not identify your patient/facility/or other staff members involved.

Referencing: Please cite any references at the end of your post. If you are citing specific facility policies, please de-identify them e.g., rather than citing “xxx Hospital Policy number 12345 (2014) Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration”, write “xxx policy number xxx (2014) Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration”

The third topic 3: CLINICAL SUPERVISION FOLLOWING SITUATIONS OF ACUTE DETERIORATION
First: Click on the link provided to view the “Reflective Clinical Supervision” scenario where a junior nurse has been a responder/observer in a cardiac arrest.

*NB: Over 400 resources for health professionals are freely available from HETI’s website http://www.heti.nsw.gov.au/ under the “Resources” tab at the top of the page.

• imagine situation in my clinical area instead of me
Prepare one post of approximately 400 words addressing the following points:
1. What factors in the cardiac arrest situation were of most concern to Kim?
2. If you were Kim’s mentor/clinical supervisor, what steps would you suggest for improving her clinical skills and confidence following this situation?
3. What policies, laws, standards, clinical tools or other publications (e.g., academic literature) do you have in place in your facility to support your suggestions?
4. Briefly describe a situation of clinical deterioration that may have caused you some distress. How did you go about receiving support after the event?

Important: when posting please do not identify your patient/facility/or other staff members involved.

Referencing: Please cite any references at the end of your post. If you are citing specific facility policies, please de-identify them e.g., rather than citing “xxx Hospital Policy number 12345 (2014) Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration”, write “xxx policy number xxx (2014) Recognising and Responding to Clinical Deterioration”
