Critique of The Maltese Falcon
The Maltese Falcon, released in 1941, is largely recognized as one of the greatest films ever made. For example, to conceal her involvement in the atrocities, Brigid portrays herself as vulnerable and in love with Samuel Spade. In contrast to Brigid, who conceals her illicit activities, Casper, the archenemy, is straightforward about his desire for The Maltese Falcon monument. Casper’s actions are not a secret, but he conceals more deceptions, such as drugging Spade and using his daughter Rhea as bait, by pretending to protect free speech. Even the main character of the novel, Sam Spade, can only arrest criminals by convincing them he is a dishonest investigator. Even though Spade utilizes deceit and deception, he does it out of a desire for justice and not for financial gain. Only Spade is able to discern dishonesty due to his natural lack of trust in others.

For example, Spade is unsure of his own and Brigid’s feelings for him.
