This is where you put your first paragraph. Introduce yourself and tell me what you are submitting in your portfolio. Present yourself well, practicing to write business letters in the future in which you are presenting a resume or an application.

This is your second paragraph. Notice that the paragraphs of a business letter are not indented like an essay. Also, the lines of a business letter are single spaced, not double spaced like an essay. Write a longer paragraph here. Look back at your goals essay from the beginning of the semester. Evaluate how you did this semester. Did you meet your goals? Did you avoid procrastination? Did you experiment with your writing process? Did you learn about how to build an argument with a narrow topic, main claim, reasons, and evidence? Did you become a more critical thinker through the class discussions in the classrooms and work on Blackboard?

For your third paragraph, look again at your goals essay and reflect on what you still need to improve. What is coming in your near future and how you will use the critical thinking, research, and writing skills you have learned. Will you use the skills you practiced in other courses, even if there isn’t as much writing in those courses? What do you see is the value of learning to communicate more effectively through writing?

This is your fourth paragraph. It is shorter. You want to end on a good note. Reflect on the course as a whole. Look toward the future and what you will do with your new thinking and writing skills. Thank the reader of the letter for their time.
