The three components a PM must balance is scope, schedule, and budget. The COO of my company will often say, “There are three options, fast, accurate, and cheap. It is only possible to satisfy two of the three options.” You can deliver accurately per the scope of work and cheap (meaning at or under budget), but this would require a methodical time line rather than a sprint. In this scenario, if the client desires a quicker delivery, either accuracy or cost must be sacrificed. Therefore, I see the three options as follows:

  • Maintain the current scope and budget, which results in the original delivery date
  • Remove accuracy and replace with a compressed time line – this means that items on the original scope of work must be sacrificed to maintain the current budget
