CULTURAL AWARENESS IN MATERNITY AND WOMEN’S HEALTH CARE PROJECT
The purpose of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of various cultural beliefs which can influence the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
Students will select a cultural population from a provided list and present beliefs in relation to the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
Students will complete an instructional presentation. Each student in the group must participate in the presentation.
Topics to address include the following:
Brief overview of the Culture concerning childbirth
Prenatal Care- (Nutrition, Beliefs, etc.)
Labor
Cesarean Section
Genetic Defects
Newborn and Sick Baby
Breastfeeding
Postpartum
Any other pertinent findings in regards to care of an Obstetrical Patient
