Informal Report – Your Informal Report consists of two (2) Internet Research Activities.

  • The Informal Report is to be typed and saved as a single word processing file and uploaded into your Assignments dropbox.
  • Prepare a 3-4 page, double-spaced informal report to be submitted to the Assignments Dropbox. Be sure to cite your sources. Indicate where you found that information.
  • Upload the one (1) file on or before the due date for the potential to earn full points. Late Submissions can be uploaded into the Late Submission Assignments dropbox.
  • There is a template on the following page that you can use, and please note that informal report layouts have flexibility so on the job a writer can present the information in the form that most benefits the company.

Some forms are:

  • Paragraph form, most commonly used.
  • Outline form to show greater detail such as staff member’s names, etc.
  • Table form used to show a lot of information at a glance.
  • For your Informal Report, just fill in the template on the following page and use the paragraph form, although you can add a list or bullets or a table to enhance your information.

  1. Access the SBA website and research and discuss in your Informal Report a topic that interests you. Your topic can cover any area of small business that you would like to research further such as:
  • starting a business
  • operating a business
  • managing a business
  • creating a business plan
  • human resources
  • office administration
  1. Locate another professional website that relates to your topic. Be sure to cite both sources! Discuss your topic and write about the most useful piece of information you acquired.

One of Fortune magazine’s annual features is its list of “America’s Most Admired Companies.” Your purpose is to learn more about the reputations of the current top ten on the list. What makes them stand out from the others?

  1. Pick one of the top ten companies, either at random or based on your interests, and do a web search for more information on that company.
  1. Cite three (3)sources about the company you chose. Be sure to make notes of the company’s social responsibility, ethics initiatives, and the like. Record the web site address of each company you searched.
  1. Then answer the following questions.
  • List the top ten most admired companies. Which one did you pick? Why?
  • What does this company do to earn its top ranking?
  • Does its high ranking in this category make you want to work for the company? Why or why not?
  • Define reputation in relation to this company. Do you see any evidence on the site to verify the reputation of the company? Ask a few of your friends their opinions of this company and how they would rank the company for reputation among consumers and/or for employment opportunities.
