COURSE PROJECT INFORMATION

Choose option 1 or 2.

1. Analysis of an IS – approach an organization, ask for permission to see a working IS, and interview the employees who were involved in the initiation and development of the system. Possibly interview managers, developers, and daily users. Interview questions should include:

1. What was the problem/opportunity that prompted the development of the system?
2. Who was involved in the development (top management, middle managers, user, IS professionals), and what roles did each group of people play?
3. What development approach was used (traditional SDLC, extreme programming [XP], other)?
4. What do the different groups think about the system? Has it met expectations?
5. What would the students improve in the system? Does the system meet any strategic goals?

Write a report based on your findings. Underline all numbered questions in paper, then answer the questions below the underlined heading.

2. Analysis of an IS implementation – This project is similar to the above, but deals with a purchased/licensed application. Therefore, should skip analysis of development and focus on the process of selecting the application among all potential applications that serve the same purpose.

1. Who initiated the exploration of implementing the new system?
2. What ROI analysis was performed?
3. What was the selection process?
4. How was the decision made to implement this particular system?
5. What has been the experience with this system so far?
