khan-academy-discussion

I WILL POST THE 2 PEERS TO RESPOND TO ONCE THE INITIAL POST IS FINISHED.

After reading Chapter 13 and reviewing the narrated PowerPoint slides, please watch the following video: https://www.ted.com/playlists/124/ken_robinson_10_talks_on_educ#

As you will see, Salman Khan, founder of the Khan Academy, which is a free online education platform, argues that we need to change the way in which information is presented to students today. Having earned three degrees from MIT and an MBA from the Harvard Business School, Khan has substantial experience with education in the U.S. He discusses how the Khan Academy began, how it has evolved, and what opportunities it presents for altering classroom instruction. Specifically, he talks about the Los Altos School District in Califormia and how they are integrating Khan lessons into some of their classrooms.

After watching the video, please share your thoughts about Khan’s vision of education. Does a “flipped classroom” make sense? Is it rreasonable to assume that all students have the technology available to access lessons from the internet at home? If this type of instruction is more effective than traditional classroom teaching, what does it mean for students in lower-income communities? What changes do you think should be made to improve education in the U.S.?

If you choose this discussion as one of the two that you must participate in, you must post an intial entry and respond to at least two other students.
