A culture is the set of learned and shared beliefs, values, practices, and all other predominating attitudes and behavior that characterize the functioning of a group or organization. Cultural literacy means we understand that a person’s culture affects the way that he or she communicates and relates to others. Review the module 3 videos on, “Chinese Business outcomes – How to Greet Someone,” & “Chinese Business Etiquette Instructional Video.” What are the key differences between American and Chinese culture? What changes would you have to make in how you greet and interact if you were doing business in China? Consider consulting other academic references in addition to the videos in your post.
REAL LIFE APPLICATION: Describe a time in which culture played a significant role in a conversation or conflict. From the perspective of cultural literacy theory, what adjustments did you have to make in order to effectively communicate? What was the outcome?
