This course will conclude with each student giving an oral presentation to the class on an assigned class session in the final two weeks of the term. Your presentation should be a detailed description of what you have learned in the course, specifically as it relates to your chosen industry or career path. You will need to get approval from the instructor in advance for your proposed topic, and submit a Formal Outline in a separate Canvas assignment no fewer than three days before the presentation date.

The Rubric for 300-level oral presentations includes specific components that you will be evaluated on:

  • Formal outline
  • Speaking outline
  • Duration of presentation (should be 8-10 minutes)
  • Content area (relevance and understanding of topic)
  • Introduction (attention-getter, thesis)
  • Structure (clarity of main points, transition from one to the next, flow)
  • Conclusion (summarizing key points and/or call to action)
  • Verbal messages (speech, language, etc.)
  • Nonverbal messages (eye contact, gestures, etc.)
  • Technological component (slide design and format)
  • Documentation (citations and References)
