- Use only a font of 12.
- Be sure that the letter is neat and tidy (consistently formatted)
- Be sure that you spell names correctly and put correct titles
- Write simple sentences.
- Use correct punctuation
- Keep like type themes within one paragraph. Paragraphs should not be too long.
- The phases (Introduction, Body of Letter and Closing) are to help you get organized but should NOT appear in your letter.
Introduction
- State why you are writing this letter – what are you asking for.
- State why this letter is relevant to the reader.
Body of the letter
- Give a brief summary of what you have done so far in your career.
- You are in competition for a limited number of scholarships, so you need to convince the reader that you should get a scholarship instead of another scholarship applicant
- Identify your aspirations. What do you want to do in your career? What are your career goals?
Closing
- Brief summary of what you are asking for
Be sure to state that you appreciate their consideration of your request
