Organizational Planning and IT Strategy

Managing information technology requires planning for changes to support the organization’s business goals, processes, structures, and technologies.

Planning is a dynamic organizational process that uses methods like the scenario approach and planning for competitive advantage to evaluate an organization’s internal and external environments; forecast new developments; establish an organization’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives; develop strategies, tactics, and policies to implement its goals; and articulate plans for the organization to act upon. A worthy planning procedure supports business’s learn about themselves and promotes organizational change and renewal (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011, p. 448).

Business/IT Planning

Strategic businesses rely on IT planning to align investment in information technology with a company’s vision and strategic goals such as reengineering business processes or gaining competitive advantages (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011, p. 457). The strategic plan outlines an organization’s business/IT strategies and technology architecture (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011, p. 457).

Implementing Business Change

Implementation activities serves to manage the introduction and implementation of changes in business procedures, configurations, tasks, and work relationships resulting from business/IT strategies and applications (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011, pp. 464-473). Some of these are e-business initiatives, reengineering projects, supply chain alliances, and the introduction of new technologies (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011, pp. 464-473).

Change management actions afford the company to manage change, plan, improvement to reduce user resistance and maximize stakeholder changes (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011, pp. 464-473).
