ISO 9000

It is an international organization that is concerned with addressing quality management issues within organizations. It has standards that provide regulation and tools for establishments and organizations that intend to ensure products and services unswervingly meet customers’ requirements and improved quality consistently.

It has four main standards in the ISO family that include ISO 9001:2008 that sets out the requirement of a quality management system; ISO 9000: 2005 that covers the basic concepts and language; ISO 9004:2009 that makes quality management more effective and efficient: and finally ISO 19011:2011 that sets out guidance on internal and external audits of quality management systems.

MBNQA

An organization established in the late 80s that is government owned under the department of commerce to improve quality in services and goods produced from the US.

It is mandated to promote quality awareness, recognize quality and publicize and share successful organizations successful performance strategies (Visscher, 2009, 50). It awards successful organizations annually at a function presided over by the president in the categories of manufacturing, service industry, education, small businesses, health care and non-governmental organizations. It works closely with other private sector organizations involved in quality management concerns.

Dubai Quality Award

Based in the United Emirates, the non- profit organization is responsible for provision of learning facilities and forums that promotes quality improvement and business excellence practices. Its membership is open to all government and private entities and individuals with different membership categories of investor, corporate, affiliate, individual and student. It is a national organization that is limited only to the interest of the country (Siebels, 2004, 12).

Differences between the three models

The three mentioned bodies experience slight differences between each other. Dubai Quality Award (DQA) commonly referred to Dubai Quality Group and MBNQA are national bodies unlike ISO 9000 which is an international body that has set standards that are practiced across the globe. The first two mentioned organizations functions are limited only to their respective countries. ISO 9000 works for profit unlike DQA which does not work for profit and that is the same case with MBNQA. DQA is majorly focused on business related issues which is not the case with MBNQA that focuses on many aspects and institutions including Non- governmental organizations. MBNQA is funded and managed by the government unlike the other two organizations which are private and managed by bodies that have no link and relations to the government. There are regional differences where by ISO is found in Genève Switzerland, DQA in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and MBNQA in the United States.

Similarities between the three organizations

The three have numerous similarities in terms of goals and objectives. All are concerned with improving quality in both goods and services provision that ensures the consumers gets value for their money (Black & Crabtree 2007, 16). The organizations also train institutions in improving quality and rewards institutions.
