Issues in Sustainability Social responsibility and environmental impact the process of sourcing in numerous areas, and each of them has a somewhat varied set of challenges. In general, however, we can identify three specific areas where issues in the commercial sphere are abundant: FILLER TEXT

1. Materials. Issues concern eliminating waste, recycling materials, reducing the rates of natural resource depletion, including food, and eliminating the dangers of hazardous materials and the effects of natural disasters created by humankind. 

2. Toxic discharge. Issues relating to poor air quality are associated with ?greenhouse gases, ozone depletion, and air pollutants as these elements relate to global climate warming. We must also consider waste discharge into waterways and water table contamination. Universal waste reduction programs are currently characterized by an astounding lack of action and the petty bickering from nation to nation. 

3. Energy consumption. Here the issues revolve around finding alternatives sources of energy to replace unsustainable fuel sources, such as oil, coal, and gas. These are issues faced primarily by the developed (and to some extent, developing) countries. As we go forward with our examination of sustainability, we will review each of these areas in more depth as they apply to global sourcing and effective supplier management. Since our examination provides an overview rather than a detailed analysis of specific initiatives, we will maintain a broad view and not examine local initiatives.
