In this first official “writing assignment”, you will complete TWO short response compositions related to the reading on Shaw & McKay from the text. Feel free to use external sources or other reading material you have previously encountered, including additional reading(s) that I provide on Blackboard. Answers to the short responses may be written in paragraph format and should follow the guidelines for writing assignments as outlined in the syllabus (submitted as Microsoft Word document, APA-style, cite your references, etc.).

1. Shaw and McKay used juvenile court records and census data. State two things about juvenile delinquency that they learned from using the census data.

2. According to Shaw and McKay, in what areas of Chicago did large numbers of juveniles delinquents live? (Remember that the downtown area was primarily commercial and was home to relatively few people, whether delinquent or not.)
