Throughout the course, you have been provided with a lot of information that provides the foundation of fire dynamics. In addition to this foundation, you have been exposed to the quantifiable methods to understand how fire develops and how energy is released.

Based on the information in this course, you will prepare a research paper that will explain how modern fire behavior is influenced by building construction and will conclude with an argument for the necessity of residential fire sprinklers. Unfortunately, there is a debate regarding benefit versus cost for the installation of residential fire sprinklers. Your ultimate job in this research paper is to end the debate with sufficient support for the use of residential fire sprinklers.

In addition, you will discuss within your paper each of the following items.

• Explain how modern building construction has changed fire dynamics.
• Describe and explain the four methods of extinguishing fires.
• Describe how the chemical chain reaction of fire can be interrupted to facilitate extinguishment.
• Provide your local policy and codes for building densities, and explain how these densities could be impacted by fire.
• Describe the possible fuel package energy within the homes discussed. Provide an outside picture of the homes discussed.
• Describe water’s relationship with fire extinguishment.
• Provide a cost-benefit analysis on the installation of fire sprinklers.
• Describe methods to remove oxygen from a fire to extinguish flames.
• Describe the impacts on the community regarding fire.
• Provide an appendix that shows one subdivision that has been approved with the current densities defined. You will need to access your planning or building department and find a subdivision to take a picture of the necessary information. You can also use Google Maps to take a screenshot of a subdivision. Be sure to provide the street name and zip code. This may be a PDF or JPEG file.

Again, your main task in this assignment is to research this topic and provide a reasonable argument for why residential sprinklers provide protection against the dangers and are cost effective for the general population. Support your evidence with sources and provide references for them.

Your paper should be a minimum of five pages and a maximum of 10 pages in length not including title page, reference page, and appendix. You will be required to reference your textbook and obtain four additional references, one of which must come from the CSU Online Library. The paper should follow APA guidelines.
